Csepel II’s 10-year anniversary

Csepel 10 year anniversary - River debris

The Csepel II power station has completed its first decade of safe and professional operation. The dedicated staff has demonstrated that Hungary can host a power station that is truly world class.

In its 10 years of successful commercial operations, the plant has continually expanded its services. As the demands of our customers and the regulatory environment evolve, we have strengthened and modernised our offering to meet the today’s business challenges.

Environmental protection activities

Alpiq is committed to environmental protection and has established a range of ambitious targets and high environmental standards. At present we are working on reducing noise levels and paper usage. We have started a paper-saving electronic procurement process and begun using recycled paper at our offices. These activities and others have reduced our paper consumption by about 15%.

Another example of environmental improvement is the major reduction of waste achieved at the Csepel II Power Station. At the plant’s water intake facility, equipment was installed to compact river debris and reduce the amount of material that must be disposed of and transported. In 2007, the first year of operation, we reduced the volume of waste by 62%. By 2008 the waste was reduced by 94% over 2006 figures.

Community involvement is another important area at Alpiq. In 2007 we began a program for elementary students in which they visit the plant to learn about electricity production, plant operation, and environmental protection. All the schools in our district have been invited to participate.
